Youth Concert Band
The Burnside Youth Concert Band was formed when conductor Stuart Jones approached the City of Burnside in 2003. Since then the band has been active in the community presenting a series of concerts in the Burnside Ballroom and playing at community events.
The new conductor as of Aug 2013 is John Lee. John previously played trumpet and French Horn with the Burnside Youth Concert Band from 2004-2014. He also plays euphonium and flugel horn with other bands, and is deputy conductor for two other bands.
The band is currently in a building phase, with 17 members ranging from upper primary to young adult, with varying abilities around grade 3 AMEB. Instrumentation includes woodwind, brass, reed and percussion. We also welcome keyboard, electric bass & double bass players.
Members have playing experience of at least two years and strong sight reading skills. Most members are also active in school bands, studying with private teachers and working their way through the AMEB practical exams.
Rehearsals are Wednesdays during School Term time from 5.30 pm to 7.45 pm in the Burnside Town Hall. The Town Hall is part of the Burnside Civic Centre on the corner of Portrush Road and Greenhill Road Tusmore -(diagonally opposite Burnside Village Shopping Centre). Please use the Portrush Road entrance and take the stairs to the Town Hall.
Repertoire encompasses a diverse mix of musical styles from original concert band music, arrangements of classical works, Broadway show tunes and jazz. The emphasis is on a high standard of musical performance in a friendly and non threatening atmosphere.
Burnside Youth Concert band is always seeking new members and parents of young players with the appropriate experience are welcome.
