Community Transport

The City of Burnside has an established Volunteer Community Transport Program that provides community members with a convenient and affordable method of transport via a wide range of services and groups.

This service utilises four community buses to deliver programs such as shopping trips and group excursions. The buses are also available for charter for local community groups.

Council Programs

Council Programs and Services are generally organised between 9am and 5pm each weekday with the exception of monthly excursions such as the Weekend Wanderers.

The shopping service provides transport for residents and their shopping between their home and either the Burnside Village or the Norwood Shopping Centre. Currently per week, there are 15 trips to the Burnside Village and 4 trips to the Norwood Shopping Centre. All shopping trips have an option for passengers to make a donation of a gold coin instead of charging a fee for the service.

There are also various social excursions that the buses are utilised for such as Mystery Tours, Weekend Wanderers and Market Trips.

The Buses

Council has two Toyota Coaster buses - one accommodates 17 passengers plus the driver and the other accommodates 18 passengers plus the driver.

Council also runs two Toyota Hi-Ace commuters which are much smaller in size and carry fewer passengers. One can accommodate 11 passengers plus the driver and the other accommodates 10 passengers plus driver.

Bus Charters

The Community Transport Buses are available for charter. To charter a bus and a driver groups or organisations must satisfy the following requirements: 

• The group must be a Community Group (not for profit) within the Burnside Council only.

• The group must use a City of Burnside volunteer driver.

• The chartered bus can only travel within a 100km radius of the City of Burnside.
