Climate Change
Council recognises the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions through our day to day operations. Council has previously participated in the Cities for Climate Protection Plus (CCP+) program, having progressed through to the fifth milestone (Mesaurement and Verification) of CCP.
The reinventory process indicated the key areas of Council's emissions to include:
-
Buildings
-
Street Lighting
-
Fleet
Council is continuing to measure and verify our emissions through carbon reporting and has taken action in all areas to reduce our impact, and continues to look for opportunities to reduce energy consumption further.
Community-related emissions are attributed in the following key areas:
- Household Energy use (57%)
- Transport (41%)
- Waste (2%)
To support the Community in reducing their energy-related environment impact, Council recognises the significance of South Australia's Greenhouse Strategy, and provides the following link to the Top ten tips to reduce our impact.
