Community Transport

The City of Burnside has an established Volunteer Community Transport Program that provides community members with a convenient and affordable method of transport via a wide range of services.

Community buses deliver programs such as shopping trips and group excursions and are are also available for charter for local community groups.

Community Shopping Bus

The shopping service provides transport for residents and their shopping on a Council bus between their home and either Burnside Village or Norwood Shopping Centre. The cost of the service is $1.50 one way or $3.00 return.

Volunteer Based Car Service

The car service is available to transport people to medical, ancillary health and some social destinations. The service is one way and can provide transport to medical appointments within 10 km of the Burnside Council premises. The service operates between the hours of 9.30 am and 4 pm, Monday to Friday. Bookings must be made at least three working days prior to any appointment. The cost for the service is $3.00 per trip.

Eligibility:

  • Live within the City of Burnside.
  • Aged 65 years or older.
  • No longer drive and no other means of transport.

The car was kindly donated by the Lions Club of Burnside.

Bus Charters

The Community Transport Buses are available for charter. Groups or organisations must satisfy the following requirements to charter a bus: 

Eligibility:

  • The group must be a Community Group (not for profit) within the City of Burnside only. 
  • The group must use a City of Burnside volunteer driver. 
  • The chartered bus can only travel within a 100 km radius of the City of Burnside. 

Council has two Toyota Coaster buses - one accommodates 17 passengers plus the driver with wheelchair access and the other accommodates 18 passengers plus the driver. 

Council also runs two Toyota Hi-Ace commuters which are smaller in size and carry fewer passengers. one can accommodate 11 passengers plus the driver and the other accommodates 10 passengers plus the driver.
