Disability Discrimination Action Plan for Facilities

The City of Burnside provides many public facilities including community centres, halls, libraries, pools and public spaces. To ensure that these facilities reflect the needs of all members of the community, the Burnside Council endorsed the City of Burnside Disability Discrimination Action Plan for Facilities 2011-2015 in May 2011.

This document aims to ensure that all facilities provided meet the varied individual needs and expectations of the whole community and that everyone has equal access to these facilities regardless of their physical and/or intellectual abilities.

The Disability Discrimination Action Plan for Facilities 2011-2015 was developed in line with Council's Strategic Community Plan and is closely linked with various Council strategies, including its Property Strategy, Open Space Strategy, Asset Management Plan (Building and Facilities) and its Ageing Strategy. It documents a set of key actions that City of Burnside Administration will undertake between 2011 - 2015 to achieve set goals, including the department and other stakeholders involved in these actions as well as time frames and outcomes that indicate what is to be achieved in practice.

The Action Plan will be revised annually with the goal that the City of Burnside's facilities are inclusive of all members of the community and will ensure that people with a disability are given the same consideration as other residents and visitors when accessing these facilities.
