The Cities of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters, Campbelltown, Unley and Burnside through partnership as participating in the Community Visitors Scheme.
If you enjoy talking with older people our program enables volunteers to visit with a resident who has little contact with family and friends. This role suits people who have an interest in older people, enjoy conversation and want to bring some joy into another person's life. The expectation is that the volunteer will visit once a fortnight however more frequent visiting is allowed. This program offers a lot of flexibility as volunteers can visit on any day of the week and at a time that suits them and the residents. Volunteers who live in the City of Burnside would be very welcomed and registered as a City of Unley volunteer however, you would visit residents within the City of Burnside.
The City of Unley is one of twenty-nine auspices who have for twenty-two years been providing socialisation to isolated and lonely residents throughout South Australia.
Volunteers receive support and training. Compassion, empathy, patience and understanding with skills in listening and conversation enable the volunteer to hear and share wonderful stories.
There are three opportunities for volunteers to visit:
- One to one with a resident in a Residential Aged Care Facility
- One to one with a resident who lives in their own home
- Visiting as a couple or team (two visitors) to talk with four residents in Secure Dementia within a Residential Aged Care Facility
