Artist of the Month - August

Nadeem Bashir - Painting

“In an effort to provoke the viewer, my visual imagery attempts to uncover the opaque ambivalence and unseen states of consciousness that constitute the socio-cultural and geo-political segregation in our present world. The canvas transforms into an ineffable zone of conflicts, contradictions, denials and darkness that represents the obscure and shrouded marks of our divided existence. My career as an artist, academic and a design educator spans over two decades. It is this passion for learning and imparting knowledge that has now translated into a Doctoral degree.”

Sahr Bashir - Jewellery

“My practice as an art educator and visual artist explores the body as a territory for ‘un-precious’ objects. By re-appropriating found objects and discarded fragments, I attempt to find new ways to combine challenging, contrasting materials, taking the form of imaginary landscapes. I try to lead the observer into a hidden imaginary world of forms, colours and contrasts. After a postgraduate degree in Design I have invested over 15 years in the tertiary education sector teaching, developing curricula, educational materials and skill training modules. My research explores the positions of the maker, wearer and the viewer, which opens up a wide array of inquiries and interpretations in our everyday engagement with jewellery and objects.”
