Advocacy Plan
The Advocacy Plan is a strategic approach that Council will use to influence decision-makers at the state and federal levels to secure funding and policy support for key projects and the most pressing policy issues facing our city. We will use this Plan to engage with other levels of government, seeking commitments that benefit our community. Council will advocate by making representations to governments, and engaging with Members of Parliament, Ministers, and candidates to form strategic partnerships and pursue grant funding.
The projects and priorities set out in this Advocacy Plan are all closely aligned with the overarching goals of Burnside 2030, Council’s Strategic Community Plan. Burnside 2030 sets out Council’s vision, goals and priorities for our city and community for the next five years:
- Community - A thriving, healthy, inclusive and connected community.
- Environment - Our city will be a leading environmental custodian.
- Place - A city of accessible and liveable precincts, open spaces and treasured heritage.
The Advocacy Plan has been arranged to present prioritised capital projects followed by ongoing operational funding initiatives then by State or Federal Government policy matters which will impact the future of how the city will grow sustainably. Lastly, this document presents a number of neighbourhood level projects which provide ideal opportunities for candidates seeking smaller scale initiatives to support in their electorate. In addition, Council will also continue to advocate with our neighbouring councils for the implementation of our major master plans, such as the Marryatville precinct.
