Burnside Ballroom


The state heritage listed Burnside Ballroom is located adjacent to the City of Burnside Civic Centre and is a unique stand-alone venue providing a charming atmosphere for a variety of functions and events.

The State Government’s Heritage Places Database lists the significance of the Ballroom as "an excellent example of a 1950s interior demonstrating characteristics of a modernist design. There are no other known examples of this style of civic interior intact".

Built in 1954, the Burnside Ballroom offers a spacious ground floor and mezzanine level, entrance foyer, ladies' powder rooms and gentlemen’s cloak rooms, bar areas on both levels and a well-equipped ground floor kitchen. The venue also features a stage and seating booths with tables along the eastern and western walls. Performance events, please also inquire about the ‘Corner Room’ which may be available to hire for ‘green room’ purposes.

Burnside Ballroom and Corner Room/Green Room Map


Note: the Corner Room/Green Room is a separate venue which may be hired in addition to the Ballroom. An hourly fee applies. Access to this room is via the rear and right of the stage, or via an external entrance as indicated on the map. Keys for these access points will only be issued to hirers who have secured a booking for this room.

Corner Room Features

The Corner Room is a separate venue located on the ground level of the Town Hall on the corner of Portrush Road and Greenhill Road (refer to the map below) and is suitable for small meetings or green room purposes. Access to this room may be arranged via a locked door to the rear and right of the Ballroom stage, or via an external entrance. Keys for these access points are available to hirers who have secured a booking for this room. An hourly hire fee applies.

  • Suitable for up to 25 people seated without tables. Please contact us to discuss your individual requirements.
  • Kitchenette complete with microwave, kettle and small fridge. Crockery is not provided.
  • 40 inch flat screen TV and Blu-ray/DVD player.
  • 1 x small double Hollywood mirror with vanity table.
  • Full length mirror.
  • 3 x flip top tables (1800 mm x 800 mm), 1 x trestle table (2130 mm x 760 mm).
  • 25 x navy fabric banquet chairs.
  • Split system reverse cycle air conditioning and ceiling fan.
  • Access to 1 x unisex disability access toilet.

Council will advise of the bond applicable in each instance.

Getting There

The Burnside Ballroom is located adjacent to the Burnside Civic Centre on the corner of Greenhill Road and Portrush Road in Tusmore. It is within walking distance to the Burnside Village Shopping Centre and is approximately 10 minutes drive from the Adelaide CBD.

The Civic Centre complex is serviced by a number of public transport routes accessible via bus stop 152 on Portrush Road and bus stop 10 on Greenhill Road.

The onsite Burnside Civic Centre car park provides non-exclusive access to up to 191 car parks. Overflow parking is available in the adjacent streets. Car parking is free, however, please ensure your members and guests take care to read all signage as parking restrictions may apply.
