Overview:
A Library Local History - Curatorial Volunteer will report to the Historical and Cultural Office and assist in the curatorial management of the Local History Collection. They will help create records in line with best practice collection management, develop hands on experience with a historical archive and have the opportunity to conduct independent research. The Library will receive a flatbed photograph scanner on loan from the History Trust of South Australia to assist volunteers with the scanning, and we will provide training on using this scanner. We are seeking applicants who can volunteer weekly over a 4 month loan period of the photographic scanner (November to February, with a break over the Christmas /New Year period), with the possibility of extending to include cataloguing of collection items and/or other collection management tasks after the scanner loan period is concluded.
Volunteers required:
Flexible - successful applicant will be able to negotiate volunteering days and times
Responsibilities:
- Scan photographs, film and negatives from the Local History Collection
- Ability to volunteer on a weekly basis over the four-month loan period of the photographic scanner (November to February, with a break over the Christmas / New Year period)
- Opportunity to continue with cataloguing of collection items and/or other collection management tasks after the scanner loan period is concluded
- A keen eye for organisation and detail
- Interest in history and archiving (previous experience a plus but not required)
- Assist in preservation of Council's historical and cultural artefacts
- Undertake projects as required by Historical and Cultural Officer
- Adhere to the Council's Code of Conduct for Volunteers
