The journalist contacted the City of Burnside with the following enquiry:

I understand your council is one of six that helped to develop the Future Living Code Amendment.

The government has written to these councils seeking confirmation of their support to apply the new Co-located Housing Overlay to the Established Neighbourhood Zone of their LGA.

Upon confirmation, the planning laws would come into effect within the LGA.

Could you please let me know if you will be confirming your support and if so by when, as this will be when the laws come into effect in your area?

The City of Burnside is proud to co-operate with its fellow Councils and the State Government to develop the Future Living Code Amendment, which is designed to enhance the liveability of the Adelaide metro area.

In 2024, the State Government held an engagement to allow for submissions to the Draft Future Living Code Amendment. The City of Burnside submitted its feedback to this engagement, with a number of proposed policy changes for the State Government’s consideration.

The State Government’s correspondence seeking support to apply the new Co-located House Overlay to the Established Neighbourhood Zone of the City of Burnside will be shared with Council at a future Ordinary Council Meeting in 2025.

The Council will decide whether to confirm its support of the application of the Co-located House Overlay at this meeting.

The intended outcomes sought by the Future Living Code Amendment are commendable and the City of Burnside is in favour of enabling increased diversity of housing options in response to changing demographics and living arrangements among our growing population, while also retaining and enhancing established dwellings and streetscapes, tree canopy and neighbourhood amenity.
