Sharps Disposal

City of Burnside Sharps Disposal Service

Sharps disposal is available at the Customer Service Desk located at 401 Greenhill Road Tusmore, during business hours (Monday – Friday 8.30 am – 5 pm).

Used sharps must be contained in an approved rigid plastic sharps disposal container. Sharps will not be accepted by the Customer Service team if they are not sealed in an approved container.

This service is for disposal of personal use sharps only. Commercial quantities of sharps must be disposed of using a medical waste contractor.

Sharps containers can be purchased from Council's Customer Service Desk.

Pricing for sharps containers are as follows:

  • 1.4 litre sharps container  - $9.75 inc. GST
  • 4.75 litre sharps container (4.0L capacity) - $14.75 inc. GST

External Sharps Disposal Services

A number of other organisations provide a sharps disposal service for the convenience of local residents. It is recommended that you make contact before attending to use their service.

The below locations are for disposal of personal use sharps only. Commercial quantities of sharps must be disposed of using a medical waste contractor.

Needle and syringe program - previously called the Clean Needle Program, this program provide a range of services including the provision of sterile needles and syringes, sharps disposal containers and disposal facilities, information, education, and referral for people who inject drugs.
