Thinking of standing for Council? Here's how

Standing for local council might sound complicated, but it’s more doable than you think.

If you’re an Australian citizen, over 18, and enrolled to vote, you’re likely eligible, but it important to check your electoral enrolment.

When nominations open, you’ll need to fill out the form, write a profile, get a new photograph and submit it by the deadline. You don’t need to belong to a political party, and you don’t need any special qualifications.

Nominations will open in August 2026 and close in September 2026.
